Westinghouse Acquires The Nashville Network and Country Music Television
Since 1982, Gaylord has provided the programming content of The Nashville Network and Country Music Television, while Westinghouse's Group W Satellite Communications provided the affiliate relations, advertising sales and marketing for the networks.
Westinghouse/CBS goes country
Under the agreement, Gaylord Entertainment shareholders will receive $1.55 billion in Westinghouse stock, and Westinghouse/CBS will transfer to Gaylord Entertainment the one-third interest it currently holds in CMT International.
Westinghouse loses $34 million
Westinghouse Electric Corp. lost money in the forth quarter due to restructuring charges and costs to its broadcasting operations from political campaign coverage and sports rights. The corporation lost $34 million.
Grand Ole Opry House to swap theme park for mall
Nashville's top tourist attraction, the music-oriented theme park Opryland USA, will make way for a huge shopping and entertainment complex, the park's owner said. Terry E. London, president of park owner Gaylord Entertainment Company, said the company will create a new attraction, to be known as Opry Mills. London said the first phase of the site combining shopping, rides and live music was projected to open in the spring of 2000, with additional attractions added over the next five years.
FTC warns of Internet job, business scams
Scam artists have seized on the Internet to promote fraudulent business opportunities, preying on college graduates and out-of-work professionals. Promoters promise job placements with Fortune 500 companies, the government, or travel carriers. The report from the FTC said, they sometimes use a victim's personal financial information to obtain money.
Lost edition of The Nashville Revue found
An early edition of The Nashville Revue has been found, the first programs were produced in Murfreesboro, Tennessee 30 miles south of Nashville. This tape includes Country and Gospel music as well as Comedy acts. A VHS copy of this program is being made public on a limited basis for only $19.95. Be sure to get your copy before the price is increased.
